Geography Lessons

Lesson: Land formations

Learning Goals

In this lesson, students will learn about archipelagos and how they are formed.

Minds On

Ask students if they have ever been on an island. Have them discuss with a partner how they think islands are formed.

Action

Explain that the Azores islands are an archipelago in the middle of the Atlantic. The page below describes how they were formed in the voice of José.
Picture
Next, have students select from the linked list of archipelagoes and have them research the language, culture, and cuisine of their selection. They will then present it to the rest of the class.

Consolidation

Have students take notes on the presentations, then complete an exit card about the presentations.

Success Criteria

Students will have an understanding of how islands are formed
Students will also have an understanding of their researched archipelago, as well as those of their classmates
